Holiday destinations in Switzerland

Over the mediaeval Old Town of Schaffhausen looms the imposing Munot fortress. The houses of the Old Town are richly decorated with oriel windows and lavishly painted facades. The town, located on the Upper Rhine between the Black Forest and Lake Constance, and surrounded by vineyards, is a popular destination for holidays and day-trips.

Malbun is the main holiday resort in the little Principality of Liechtenstein. This small village is ideal for families in summer or winter. There are many cultural attractions to visit in the nearby capital, Vaduz.

Situated on a sunny terrace high above the Walensee at the gateway to Heidiland – the holiday region between the Walensee and Sarganserland – lies the resort of Amden. The small historic town of Weesen on the shores of the Walensee also belongs to the small holiday region of Amden-Weesen in the canton of St. Gallen. The two locations of Amden and Weesen complement one another with their summer and winter attractions and combine an Alpine idyll with a southern beach atmosphere.

Bad Ragaz in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley at the foot of the Pizol has a long traditional as a thermal spa. It is now a wellness resort with top-class hotels, thermal baths and golf courses. The warm (37°C), healing water rises in the mysterious Tamina Gorge from a chamber deep in the mountain between towering schist walls up to 70 metres high.

Braunwald is a family friendly, traffic-free summer and winter holiday resort on a sunny terrace in the Glarus hinterland. The panoramic view to the south is dominated by the impressive Tödi with its unmistakable glaciated peak. Braunwald holiday attractions include beautiful themed trails, climbing routes, rose gardens and the family-oriented skiing area.

The holiday region of Elm / Sernftal is surrounded by the mountain scenery of the Glarus peaks. Twice a year the sun pierces the 16-metre Maartin’s Hole in the Tschingelhorn and falls directly on the church tower in Elm. In summer there are lots of walks to choose from, starting in the listed picture-book village of Elm. In winter, families and top-class skiers alike are drawn to the richly varied skiing terrain.

Flumserberg lies high above the southern shore of the Walensee facing the magnificent and geologically fascinating Churfirsten chain. This family-friendly resort is surrounded by varied walking country and offers many attractions for children. In winter, Flumserberg is the biggest winter sports’ region in eastern Switzerland.
