Holidays to make hearts happy.
Eastern Switzerland - Principality of Liechtenstein
Exploring under your own steam – on skates, on wheels or on foot: Whether you stride across hills and meadows, cycle or skate along picturesque riverbanks and
lakeshores, or freewheel on a scooter down from a mountaintop, motor-less travel is fun as well as green. Pick a “slowUp” day, and you’ll even find the roads free of traffic.
You’ll fall in love with the beautiful east – and you’ll feel fabulously healthy, too.
From green, gently rolling hills scattered with farms to the shores
of Lake Constance, from broad valleys to soaring mountain
massifs, Eastern Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein
offer a magical and endlessly fascinating landscape to explore
under your own steam.
Nordic walkers can hike in Switzerland’s largest Nordic Fitness
Park with its extensive network of signposted trails and dedicated
hotels, stride across alpine meadows with panoramic views or
brave the SwissTopwalk on the Pizol. Paths at varying heights
lead to mountain inns offering magnificent views and country
food. Then there are theme trails that tell tales or make nature
sing – guaranteed to turn family walks into fun adventures. Mountain-
bikers can choose between trails of all levels, tackling hills,
mountains and valleys – and crossing borders too. On eight tiny
wheels, inline skaters can glide down the sweeping Rhine valley,
along either side of the border with Liechtenstein, or travel
through expansive fruit orchards along the shores of Lake Constance
as far as the celebrated Rhine Falls.
A celebration of slowness
On four summer Sundays visitors have a chance to join local
cyclists, skaters and walkers in a celebration of slowness. At
these “slowUp” events, roads and streets are closed to motorized
traffic, and reserved for those travelling under their own steam.
At each event there is a circuit through delightful scenery of about
40 km – with numerous festive diversions along the way.
