Château-d'Oex/Rougemont

Guaranteed connection: You can take a narrow view of the Pays-d’Enhaut – and still enjoy 40 km of attractive piste at the small but diverse ski area of La Braye above Château-d’Oex, especially appealing to families.
Or you can get the bigger picture. Thanks to the Videmanette gondola, Rougemont is connected directly to the Gstaad ski area: 250 km of piste beckon, along with several toboggan runs and 60 km of snowshoe trails. One insider tip for cross-country skiers is La Lécherette, the high plateau at Les Mosses, with 42 km of trails.

Free for kids up to 9.

On some days, all seems to be well with the world. The children are having a fabulous time in the snow; the grown-ups are relaxing too, enjoying the winter fun – because they also feel looked after. During the whole season, children up to the age of nine ride skilifts and stay in hotels free of charge in Château d’Oex, Rougemont, Les Mosses, Leysin, Les Diablerets and Villars-Gryon. See conditions at www.alpes.ch.

Top tip

The sky over Château-d’Oex is often bursting with colour, for this resort is known as the world capital of hot-air ballooning. And the brightest time of all is the International Balloon Festival, from 24 January to 1 February 2009.
