The modern funicular links Moléson-sur-Gruyeres with Plan-Francey. Here, from the very first mountain ridge, breathtaking scenery comes into view. When the train was constructed, care was taken to include the best views. The journey in a “glass sphere” takes you through forest and fairytale landscapes. The ultramodern funicular, which was built only in 1998, offers comfort, spectacular vistas and the latest technology. From Plan-Francey (1500m) the funicular climbs on its second stage high up to the Moléson summit (2002m). This “pre-Alpine balcony” opens up an overview of Valaisian Switzerland up to the Bernese and Valaisian Alps, from Mont Blanc to the Three Lakes Region.
On the peak there is a small mountain hut and an observatory. Upon prior appointment one can participate in a guided tour and stay overnight.
The Moléson justifiedly has a special place in the heart of the Freiburg population, which has dedicated many a song to this mystical mountain.
The Stars Seem Close Enough to Touch.
